Join Katie’s PA team

A team of 6 to 8 PAs, at least 50% with a driver's license, required for a 30 year old young woman, Katie, with severe learning difficulties, complex medical needs, including epilepsy (well controlled with medication) and non verbal.

You will need to have a big heart and a relaxed and gentle approach, patience, persistence, the desire to learn, enjoy life and long walks. A knowledge of Makaton and non verbal communication techniques would be an advantage, but, if you are willing, Katie can teach you how to communicate with her. Katie needs to feel respected, valued and safe in her relationships/friendships.

She requires 2 to 1 in the community, as she is unaware of risk.

At home Katie likes engaging in activities around the house, such as baking and helping in the kitchen. She has some dietary intolerances so you will need to understand these.

Support with food preparation, personal care, communication and keeping her environment in order.
Support with medication - following a MAR sheet. training provided if needed.
Support to engage in fun and interactive activities both within the home and outside.

Extensive training in PBS is provided, as well as professional training in epilepsy and rescue medicine for possible seizures. A more specific understanding of her manifestation will be an ongoing training provided within the home.

Katie is happiest in a calm and joyful environment where she feels heard, understood and valued. She is very sociable and forms bonds of trust and appreciation with those around her. She is very sensitive and also has a good sense of humour.
