We are looking for a reliable, compassionate and experienced self-employed carer to provide respite, sickness and annual leave cover, as well as occasional weekend support, as part of an existing care team for my mother, who has moderate-stage Alzheimer's disease and lives in central Brighton.

This role would suit someone who is flexible, calm, person-centred and confident supporting an older adult living with dementia. You will need to be reliable, responsive to calls and text messages at short notice in order to provide cover, and able to step into an established support arrangement when required.

Duties include:

* Personal care and support with hygiene
* Assistance with dressing and grooming
* Preparing meals and encouraging food and fluid intake
* Prompting and support with toileting
* Providing companionship and reassurance
* Supporting daily routines and maintaining wellbeing
* Liaising appropriately with the existing care team when required

My mother enjoys:

* Comedy films
* Friendly conversation and companionship

There is an established care team already in place, as well as a Homeshare companion who stays overnight. You will be working as part of a wider support network, with handover notes available to ensure continuity of care.

Requirements

* Essential: Previous experience supporting people with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia
* Enhanced DBS certificate
* Two employment references
* Good communication skills
* Reliable and able to work independently
* Flexible availability for short-notice cover
* Able to provide person-centred, respectful and dignified care

Rate of Pay

* £25 per hour

Important

This is a self-employed position. You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance and any other self-employment obligations. This is not a PAYE role.
