Workplace support for Visually Impaired professional
Professional with visual impairment looking for a Personal Assistant to support in the workplace. I currently work a combination of home and office working with a local disability charity. My role is to support people who have lived experience of using mental health services to influence decision makers about future services. I would like a PA to bridge the gap where my sight makes office working challenging.
Hours: 14 hours across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday some flexibility desired. Exact working pattern to be discussed on successful application.
Location: a combination of Kemptown and Hollingdean with possibility of occasional meetings across Brighton and Hove.
I am looking for a PA to support me with:
- Facilitation of meetings both online and in person,
- Administrative support including, reformatting documents calendar management, proof reading, occasional note taking
- Route planning and help when travelling to meet service users throughout Brighton and Hove
- Provide sighted support when documentation is not accessible.
- Attend training and meetings in a support capacity
Essential skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Good IT skills including Microsoft office package and Zoom.
- Patient
- Understanding of professional boundaries
Desired skills:
- Knowledge of visual impairment
- Knowledge or interest in access technology
- Lived experience of a mental health condition
- Desire to actively improve the lives of people with a disability or health condition
- Valid driving licence (not essential)
A little more about me:
I am a female who is registered as Severely Sight Impaired and has controlled epilepsy. I have a significant amount of functional vision and do not need help with personal care but do have difficulties accessing information or locating items in a busy office as well as find it hard to locate new places. I am passionate about improving the lives of people with a health condition or disability. I enjoy live music, outdoor swimming and crochet when I’m not working.
